REDUCER and REDUCER RATIO

The reducer is a system which allows to have a rotation speed of the propeller different from the rotation speed of the engine

 

A propeller which turns slowly has a better efficiency and generates fewer noise. It is very easy to reach the speed of sound in extremity of blades, what is not interesting.

 

There are several types of reducers, in particular for the aeronautics: reducers with belt, with gearings, and more rarely with chain.

REDUCER RATIO

 

The reducer ratio is the relation between the RPM of the engine and the RPM of the propeller.

 

It is possible to measure it :

- on a belt reducer : by measuring the diameter of both pulleys and by making the report between both.

- on a gearing or chain reducer : by counting the teeth number of every pinion and by making the report between both.

 

 

 

ROTAX 582 reducers :

 

- B : ratio 2,58

- C : ratio 2,62 / 3 / 3,47 / 4

- E : ratio 2,62 / 3 / 3,47 / 4

 

For reducer ratio B 2,58, we have no propellers model (holes 6M8d75 incompatible with our hubs for this power)

In tractor configuration, we recommend reducer C (2,62 or 3)

In pusher configuration, we recommend reducer E (3,47)

En 2016, ce colloque traitant de tous les thèmes relatifs à la conception, à la structure, à l’aérodynamique, à la propulsion, à l’utilisation et au pilotage des avions légers s'est déroulé les vendredi 10 et samedi 11 juin 2016.

 

Jérémie Buiatti, concepteur des hélices E-PROPS, s'est intéressé à ce qui se passe entre le moteur et l'hélice.
